Reproduction occured naturally in salt water (36%o) and survival rate, during incubation, reached 75% at 28 Degrees. The fecundity drop, in comparison with freh water reproduction, is only of 15% and is compensated by a better survival during rearing cycle.

Zootechnical and trading results obtained in Reunion Island had assured a durable implanting of this species on the local market notably thanks to its coat close to some appreciate marine fish like red grouper. The stock has been transfered in Guadeloupe and West Africa on fish farming projects which have little fresh water ressources.


	AQUACOOP. (G.I.E)		In 1991, the Bourbon Aquaculture Company specialized in marine exploitation since 1985, realized the first complete rearing cycle in sea water of the Golden mutant Oreochromis mossambicus. After seven generations, the species has prouved its strong euryhalinity and the stability of its orang-red coat.

En 1991, la société Bourbonnaise d'Aquaculture spécialisée en aquaculture marine depuis 1985, réalise le premier cycle complet d'élevage en eau de mer d'Oréochromis mossambicus mutant doré. L'espèce, aprés sept générations, a prouvé de réelles qualités: grande euryhalinité, stabilité de sa robe rouge - orangée. La reproduction a lieu à une salinité de 36%o et le taux de survie à l'incubation dépasse 75% à 28 Degrés. La bien meilleure survie des alevins durant le cycle d'élevage compense une légère baisse de fécondité (15%) par rapport à la reproduction en eau douce.

Les résultats zootechniques et économiques obtenus à la Réunion ont assuré une implantation durable de l'espèce sur le marché local, notamment grâce à sa robe proche d'espèces marines appreciées tel que le mérou rouge. La souche a été transférée à la Guadeloupe et en Afrique de l'Ouest sur des projets aquacoles disposant de peu ou pas de ressources en eau douce.
